Does Signs Express make and install signs in Arlington, TX?

Yes. Signs Express designs, permits, fabricates and installs commercial signs for Arlington businesses, including wall signs, monument and ground signs, channel letters and restaurant signs. Commercial Arlington

Arlington: stadiums, highways and older corridors.

Arlington sits between Dallas and Fort Worth, crossed by I-30 and I-20 and tied together by SH 360. Its entertainment district, home to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Six Flags Over Texas, brings hotels, restaurants and event traffic.

The University of Texas at Arlington and downtown Arlington sit near the center of the city, the I-20 corridor carries big-box and regional retail, and the General Motors assembly plant anchors industrial land on the east side.

Along older arterials such as Abram Street, some businesses still have pole signs that no longer meet the current code. The city's Commercial Signage Improvement Program, approved in 2023, focuses on Abram Street and offers incentives for replacing them with wall, ground or blade signs that meet Article 7.

Restaurants near the stadiums and along I-20 serve event crowds and late traffic, so the sign has to work at night.

Permits

Sign permits in Arlington

Arlington's sign requirements are in Article 7 of its Unified Development Code, and the Planning and Development Services Department answers questions about them.

According to the city's sign information bulletin, sign permits are applied for online, a business needs a Certificate of Occupancy approved or in review to be approved for a sign permit, an electrical permit is required if new wiring is connected to light the sign, and a separate permit is required for each sign.

Signs that do not need a permit must still meet Article 7, and the bulletin notes that prohibited signs cannot be permitted and have no variance.

The city's Commercial Signage Improvement Program, approved in 2023, offers incentives for removing non-conforming pole signs and installing conforming signs, with a focus on Abram Street. Funding is limited, so check the program page for current availability.

Requirements depend on the sign, the site and its zoning. We confirm the current rules for your address before design and handle the application for you.

Signs in Arlington: common questions.

Something else on your mind? Call (469) 901-3108 or send the details through the quote form.

Does each sign in Arlington need its own permit?

Yes. The city's sign bulletin says a separate permit is required for each sign. A wall sign on the front, another on the side and a ground sign at the drive are three permits, each with its own drawings.

Do I need an electrical permit for a lit sign in Arlington?

If new wiring must be connected to light the sign, internally or externally, Arlington requires an electrical permit in addition to the sign permit. Signs Express holds Texas Electrical Sign Contractor #18921, the Texas license for sign electrical work, so both permits can run through one company.

Can I replace my old pole sign in Arlington?

Often, yes, and the city has encouraged it. Arlington's Commercial Signage Improvement Program offers incentives for removing non-conforming pole signs and installing conforming wall, ground or blade signs. Funding is limited, so check the city's page for current availability. We can survey the existing sign and design, permit and install the replacement.

Do I need a Certificate of Occupancy before a sign permit in Arlington?

The city's bulletin says a business needs a Certificate of Occupancy approved or in review to be approved for a sign permit. If you are opening a new location, apply for the CO early so the sign is not held up.

Do signs that are exempt from permits still have rules?

Yes. Arlington's bulletin says signs that do not need a permit must still be placed, altered and designed within Article 7, and non-compliant signs can bring violation notices and fines. It puts that due diligence on the property owner.

Do you make signs for hotels and restaurants near the stadiums?

Yes. Hotels, restaurants and bars near the entertainment district need signs that work at night and read from busy roads, usually lit letters on the building and an illuminated monument at the drive. We design, permit, build and install both.
